Here, we offer tips on getting the most out of these practice tests, so you're prepared for the real thing:

  • Study beforehand. This is, of course, the most important aspect of preparation.
  • Answer every question, even if that means guessing. You won't be penalized for wrong answers on the ASVAB, so you might as well take the chance that you might guess right. Eliminate as many options as possible, then make a best guess from the choices that remain. Even if you feel you have no clue as to the right answer, be sure to fill in something - according to the odds, one in five of your guesses will be correct.
  • Be smart with your time. Don't spend too much time on any single question. Skip those you get stuck on, and move quickly through questions you do know. You can always return to the ones you weren't sure of, and wager a guess.
  • Use test preparation materials. Take as many practice tests as you're able to get your hands on, and make sure you write them as if they are the real thing. Mimicking the official conditions of the test will help you achieve the mind frame you need to succeed on test day.
  • Familiarize yourself with the format of the test. The ASVAB uses only multiple choice questions, with answers placed on machine-scored answer sheets. Be sure that you know how to blacken the bubbles properly.
  • Keep the material fresh in your mind. Studying weeks before will only help you if you keep the material fresh in your mind all the way up to test day. The best strategy is to study well before the test, then review materials daily before you take the test.
  • Review your answers at the end of practice tests. There is no sense in taking practice tests unless you learn from your mistakes. Take at least two practice tests, review your answers and try not to make the same mistakes again.
